A bit of background, history and philosopy about us.
Birgitta Nostring left New York city in 1977 for a more peaceful and satisfying life style than a large city can offer.
Birgitta and Hans, her son, are now living almost on top of Mount Davis, in a small village.
Rag rugs were common items in most every home in Sweden where Birgitta spent her first 19 years.
The weaving started 1980 after a huge barn beam loom was purchased at a farm auction and restored to functioning condition.
Weaving rugs quickly became a full time endeavor and has been, along with a livelihood, a deeply satisfying occupation.
Although new materials are used in all the weavings, it is still a recycle process of fabrics that otherwise would end up in landfills.
From the very beginning the weavings have been sold mainly at craftshows and fiber festivals. Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival in 1986 opened up a whole new world of fiber adventures for Birgitta. Since that year spinning and dyeing yarns and fibers has been yet another love affair and a business onto itself.
Hans Nostring, Birgitta's son, has added a new dimension to the rug selection with thick, fluffy rugs woven with Afghan selvages.
Fairly new to the ragrug weaving genre but very popular. As opposed to traditional rag rugs these fit in most any home decor.
He also manages a sizeable herd of goats and grows a substantial vegetable garden specializing in HOT peppers of many varieties.
